National Slider Day is an annual celebration of the beloved small sandwich that is a classic American favorite. Celebrated on May 15th, this holiday is a great time to get together with friends and family and enjoy some delicious sliders.

Sliders were first invented in 1916 at White Castle in Wichita, Kansas, sliders have become a popular snack and meal throughout the United States. They are known for their small size and affordability, as well as their versatility. Sliders can be made with different types of meats, sauces, and toppings, making them the perfect food to share!

 

Now there are all types of sliders including:

– Classic beef sliders

– BBQ pulled pork sliders

– Buffalo chicken sliders

– Crispy fish sliders

– Black bean veggie sliders

– Grilled cheese sliders

– Egg and cheese sliders

– Cheeseburger sliders

– and many more.

 

In honor of National Slider Day, here are some fun facts about sliders:

– The term “slider” was coined at White Castle in the 1940s.

– Sliders are typically served on soft rolls, such as Hawaiian sweet rolls or dinner rolls.

– The average slider is about 2 inches in diameter and 1-2 inches thick.

– Sliders can be made with a variety of meats, from hamburger and pork to turkey and chicken.

– Sliders are often served with cheese, lettuce, pickles, onions, and sauces.

– In 2015, White Castle began selling frozen sliders in grocery stores.

– Sliders can be enjoyed as appetizers, snacks, or meals.

 

Classic Slider Recipe

Ingredients:

1 package of slider buns

1 pound of ground beef

1/4 cup of diced onion

1 teaspoon of garlic powder

1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon of salt

1 teaspoon of pepper

Toppings such as cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, etc.

 

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until combined.
  3. Form mixture into small patties and place on a baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until patties are cooked through.
  5. Place patties on slider buns and add desired toppings.
  6. Serve and enjoy!
