1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
3. Combine the flour and salt; stir into the creamed mixture alternately with the milk.
4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes in the preheated oven. The cake is done when it springs back to the touch.
