Mulled Wine

Ingredients

  • 2 750–milliliter bottles of red wine, (we used Sangue di Giuda) any Cabernet Sauvignon medium body wine will do as well.
  • ½ cup brandy
  • ½ cup maple syrup
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 2 whole star anise pods
  • 2 3-inch cinnamon sticks
  • Peel of ½ orange with pit removed
  • Optional garnishes: cinnamon sticks star anise pods, orange peel or slices, cranberries

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a saucepan (or into a crock pot on low heat). and give them a quick stir.
  • Simmer your mixture very gently for 10 - 20 mins, keeping the lid on, and try to keep the mulled wine covered between servings.
  • Using a metal strainer, remove and discard everything but the liquid.
  • Serve warm topped with your favorite garnishes such as orange peels or cinnamon sticks.
