Beignet Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 egg
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  • 1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  • 2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, water, and egg.
  • 3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, and mix until a soft dough forms.
  • 4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes.
  • 5. Roll the dough into a 1/2-inch thick rectangle and cut into 2-inch squares.
  • 6. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F.
  • 7. Working in batches, carefully add the beignets to the skillet and fry for 1-2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  • 8. Remove the beignets from the skillet and let them cool on a paper towel-lined plate.
